  • 1 white cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • cup vegetable oil
  • cup water
  • 3 wide mouth glass canning jars
  • non stick cooking spray
  • Wilton food colors as per your choice
  • sprinkles or decorating stars
  • whipped cream

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Wash canning jars and dry thoroughly. Remove the lids and rims. Set aside.
  • Spray inside of each glass jar with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Make cake batter according to manufacturer’s directions
  • Divide batter evenly between 5-6 bowls (as per the number of colors you want).
  • Add really tiny speckle of the colors into each bowl. Stir to blend well
  • Spoon about less than 1/4-cup of each color batter into each of the jars, layering the colors in the order you like. Fill 3/4th of the jar. Don’t fill till the rim. It will overflow during baking. The colors are use to sink and form a layer. Just to make it look better, I used a bamboo skewer and created a tie-dye effect by inserting the skewers and gently making a swirl to mix the color gently. This gives the confetti look.
  • Using a wet cloth or kitchen towel, clean the edges.
  • Place the jars in a glass baking dish. Fill 1/4″ of hot water in it. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Use a long bamboo skewer to test doneness. Insert a bamboo skewer and it should come out clean.
  • Cool and bring them down to room temperature.
  • Use a frosting mixture or whipped cream. Decorate with your choice of edible designs. I used stars as my son loves it.

The cake looked too bright with violet shade. When I poured the other colors, the violet became very dominant and was floating all over the jar. I let it bake. Once they cooled down, I used a fork to fluff out the cake to bring the colors around. Hence you could see chunks of different colors around. I liked it that way. You can serve the cake the way you want.
